With the recent global approval of the LibertyLink GT27 and Enlist E3 soybean traits, there seems to be some confusion or uncertainty as to what glyphosate products can be applied to these crops.
Most glyphosate labels state for use in “Roundup Ready crops” or in crops that have the “Roundup Ready gene”. If this is the only language that appears on the label, it is our understanding that these products cannot be applied over-the-top of these newly approved traits.
However, some glyphosate labels have additional language stating that the glyphosate product can also be applied to “glyphosate tolerant crops”. It is our belief based on recent discussion with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency that these products can be legally applied to LibertyLink GT27 and Enlist E3 soybean as well as to Enlist cotton and Glytol cotton.
After reviewing the labels of approximately 100 glyphosate products registered with the Arkansas State Plant Board for agricultural use in the Arkansas, it appears that approximately 20 glyphosate or glyphosate-containing products can be used in these newly released soybean traits. This list of products along with their manufacturers are provided in Table 1.
There may be glyphosate products in addition to those on this list that can be legally applied over-the-top of LibertyLink GT27 and Enlist E3 soybean. If so, these products are currently not registered in the State, or have not been added to an updated list for Arkansas. As the acreage of LibertyLinkGT27 and Enlist E3 soybean increases, we expect that the wording “glyphosate tolerant crops” will be added to more glyphosate product labels, providing growers more glyphosate options for in-crop use. Always read and follow pesticide label instructions.
