Photo: Iowa State University
Some of the early testing of 2,4-D as a selective herbicide was done on the central campus of Iowa State University, starting in 1945, according to Bob Hartzler, ISA Weed Scientist. This particular picture is from 1948 or 1949, so it’s about 70 years old – obviously before OSHA or personal protection equipment came along.
If you’re familiar with the campus, the photo was taken on the southwest side of MacKay Hall before LeBaron Hall was attached to it.
Do you have similar shots of early herbicide spraying? We would like to run them. Please email images and info to Owen Taylor at email@example.com.
